Hurricane Destruction

Hurricanes differ from tornados in that tornados are largely shaped and fed by land based features and airflows. Hurricanes, however, derive their energy from warm ocean waters while they are thousands of miles from the US. We'll need a different solution to mitigate hurricanes.

When the hurricane's projected path will impact off shore islands or the US mainland, send out multiple supersonic jets to create sonic booms directed at the hurricane's eyewall. This 'directed force' will collapse the eyewall, thereby destroying its ability to draw energy from the ocean. Not only will this keep the hurricane from growing larger and more powerful but will also completely demolish the hurricane!

Damages

In 2023 hurricanes were responsible for 18 deaths and caused $4.19 Billion in damages!

In 2022 hurricanes were responsible for over 170 deaths and caused $113 Billion in damages!!! That's the third costliest on record. That's over $320 for every person in the country. Is it any wonder your insurance goes up?

The top five costliest hurricane seasons are: 2017, $294 Billion; 2005, $172 Billion; 2022, $120 Billion; 2021, $80 Billion and 2012, $72 Billion.

The death toll for just those five seasons was over 7,600. Just these five seasons total almost three quarters of a TRILLION dollars. That works out to be over $2,000 per person for every human in the US!

Who pays for that? Not the insurance companies or the government. You do! Either in higher insurance fees or higher taxes.

You'll probably be surprised to learn that hail storms are the costliest storms each year.

Over the last ten years damage just from hail storms has exceeded 150 BILLION dollars. In 2023 hail damage exceeded 40 billion dollars!

In spite of the damage caused, hail storms are local events covering less than 10 miles in width and 100 miles in length. Disrupting the incoming updraft airflow should reduce the intensity and duration of such a storm. Doing so with aircraft outside the main storm updraft should be a way to do so safely.

Tornados are also localized events that could be managed safely before they become unstoppable and deadly using the same approach.

The 1997 Jarrell Texas tornado was photographed during its initial formation where, I contend, it could have been destroyed. Fifteen minutes later it was a violent F5 tornado causing massive destruction and death.

Using multiple aircraft stationed close enough together to arrive at a storm's location in time to be effective shouldn't be a problem. We could use hundreds of planes at multiple new airports just for this purpose.

A lot of planes can be purchased and new airports built with billions of dollars!
